November marks the end of the growing season here in the UK. From this point onwards frosts are very likely to set in and temperatures are often below 8 degrees Celsius which are low enough to stop germination. Although nothing new will be growing in your garden, there are still tasks that need completing to keep your space in a healthy condition over the autumn/winter months.
General Tasks For November
- Remove any leaves from the garden as and when they appear
- Clean hard surfaces such as patios and paving to remove green algae slimes and help keep them safe to walk on
Lawn / Turfed Area Maintenance
- If the weather is not frosty or too wet, the lawn can have its final cut of the year using the mower on its highest setting
- Keep off the lawn as much as possible if frosts are present
- Where snowfall has occurred, make sure that you shovel it off of the lawn to avoid any lasting damage
Trees, Shrubs and Hedges
- Keep an eye out to make sure that none of these have any wind damage and ensure that stakes and ties are still all in place
- Remove snowfall off of conifers
- Protect sensitive shrubs and trees from frosts
Beds and Borders
- Give these areas a tidy up, cutting back any old growth
