The Possibilities of an Outdoor Space

All

Maybe your garden is the unloved, overgrown space in your home, or maybe you just want to change the whole thing to see if you can make it better. Whatever you want to do with it, we’ve got some tips that any gardener will appreciate. This way you can spend the final moments of winter thinking about how spectacular your garden will look in a few months' time. The sun will be shining, the insects will return, and your flowers and lawn will be a combination to die for! There are also loads of great opportunities to make your space more animal friendly, such as with insect hotels, but more on that later.

Planting Flowers

When you’re cold and inside, it’s a great time to think about all the beautiful flowers you’ll plant when the weather warms up. Tulips, daffodils, hyacinths and pansies are all perfect for planting in spring and will give your garden a rush of intense and beautiful colours. Or if you love spontaneity then get your hands on one of our wildflower mixes. These will bring a wide range of beautiful flowers to your garden and they're easy to use!

Wildlife

You will inevitably end up sharing your garden with a range of different creatures. This could be foxes living under your old shed, or bugs crawling around in the undergrowth. Making your garden a better place for wildlife can be incredibly rewarding and very simple to do! For birds, you can build or buy a pre-built bird bath and get your hands on some bird feed. For bugs, you could build an insect hotel, which is also a perfect activity to get your kids doing. You can also correspond with your neighbours and make a hedgehog highway to keep those little creatures moving safely and swiftly on their warpath against slugs.

DIY

Your garden is the perfect place to launch your DIY career. Maybe you want to build a shed to store your bike or your home gym, or maybe you want to install a new fence. Or if you’ve got a large enough space, you could try something even more exciting. Picture a pergola with a fire pit buried beneath it, waiting to be sat around and have stories exchanged and good times had. If you can’t think of anything to make, why not start small? Have a go at building a birdbath for your local wildlife, or if you’re into cooking, why not try building your own pizza oven? Whatever project you’ve been planning or been inspired to do, now’s the time to do it!

Grow Your Own Vegetables

If you want a more sustainable lifestyle and want to save a few pounds here and there, then having your own vegetable patch in your garden might be for you. With all the delicious potatoes and carrots you grow, your roast dinners will taste all the better knowing that you’ve sourced your own veggies. Growing your own food can also be incredibly rewarding. If you really start to love growing you could even expand your operation with an allotment and grow all sorts of wonderful food all year round and in higher quantities!

Landscaping

Landscaping is something that can change the entire look and feel of your garden. You can decide to transform it into a wild space for animals of all shapes and sizes, or into a luxurious outdoor space with a pergola and fire pit. Whatever you decide to do, it is well worth looking at what some other people have done so that you can get inspired and combine ideas to make something new and unique.

Relaxing

We don’t want all our tips to involve you potentially being hot and bothered by the end of them, so we thought we’d remind you to relax. Your garden is your own corner of the world where you escape into a slice of nature. You can sunbathe and attempt to get a tan with the temperamental British sunshine, get friends over for a BBQ, start that book you’ve been meaning to read, befriend the wildlife! These are just a few things you could do to unwind, but relaxation means something different to everybody, so we’re sure you’ll know what’s best for you. Just make sure you put some time in your schedule to do it and take care of yourself.

Lawn

Lastly, we want to put a focus on the main feature of your garden. Your lawn. For most people, this is the glue that holds all the other components of their space together. It marks boundaries for planting flowers and trees, it’s a place to lay down and relax and summer, and it makes your space green and full of colour. That’s why it’s so important to make sure your lawn is in great condition. At A1 Lawn, we happen to be specialists in lawns, and we have the best products in the UK to help get you that perfect lawn. Our Platinum Pro grass seed, which has been laboratory tested to be the best grass seed in the UK, is ideal for getting that lawn you've always dreamed of. We also have a range of fertilisers to help speed up the growing process and you can find those here.  Those are just a few ideas of how you can make your garden into the space you want it to be. So instead of sitting inside in the winter and looking sadly into your garden, get creative and come up with ways you’re going to transform it into something amazing!
